Folk/pop songsmith Andy Baker loves to pen tunes that stir the mind as well as the heart. And stir a little laughter as well! In a sea of troubadours pining of broken hearts, Andy has plotted a different course. Guiding a vessel of rich, comfortable guitar grooves, Andy’s songs take his audience into fresh and uncharted waters. His dynamic and engaging style sails through the spectrum from philosophical to downright hilarious.
Just thumbing through the lyrics from his new album “Down”, you’ll encounter such treasures as the elegant Origami Heart, or the bluegrassy reflections of Almena Road. And when he does speak of love he finds new twists, as in the Greek Myth inspired and catchy pop rock vibe of Icarus Knows.
And as soon as you think things are going to get real serious, he rips out a funky blues tune, poking fun at the self help book craze or his addiction to Ebay. And just to keep things fresh, he performs live on a multitude of instruments including acoustic guitar, bass, dobro, and 6 string banjo.
As host of both a house concert series as well as a monthly live theater series, Andy has shared the stage with many familiar local and national names including Andy Potts, Ellis, Fran Snyder, Annie and Rod Capps, Allison Downey, Ralston Bowles, Dublin Station, John D. Lamb, and many others. Comparisons have been made to some of his favorite writers such as David Wilcox and James Taylor.
